Sketch of the day

Sketch of the Day

NOTE: **Sketch of the day was a project that I began when I was living alone in Maine for the winter.  I started drawing and posting every day in order to give myself a daily goal so that I wouldn't go crazy within the confines of a severe New England winter.  I intended to finish one creative piece every day because I had been pouring all of myself into large drawings and sometimes felt like I would never finish anything.**

I have come to realize that the (Sketch of the Day) project is about the honest sharing of creativity.  I don't draw all of this stuff to showcase myself.  I just draw and share to make creativity accessible to you, your friends, people you don't know, people you dont know's mom's friend's dog's children (etc.) every day.  I hope to inspire you and others.  I hope that you will in turn spread inspiration and creativity in your own unique way (everyone is creative).  In short, the sketch of the day has become an ongoing attempt to make the world a bit more friendly toward creativity.

I love you, Sketch Of the Day... but...

Ohdear

I have been thinking...

The "from me to you" project has begun to grow because of all of the beautiful intentions and love that all of you posess, and I want to help it grow as well.

I am hereby discontinuing the "sketch of the day" in order to really make "from me to you" happen.

I begin a new chapter.  I will now update weekly intead of daily.  Really, I am still going to be drawing every day, but you just won't get to see them until Monday.  I know that this could perhaps be saddening, but you should be happy because you now have a say in the drawings which are being posted!  All you have to do is submit a story!

How do you know if it's fresh?

cuposlugs

I hope that I'm not the only one who finds a strange sense of satisfaction in the idea of a cup of slugs.  Even the phrase: "Cup 'o Slugs" makes me feel all cozy.

Also: you cannot tell me a story about a cup of slugs, and not expect it to wind up in the sketch of the day.  Just saying.

Whew-

Thank you, to all of you beautiful, strong, devoted, caring women out there who always work hard to protect and love your families.

Thank you to my own beautiful mother, who is the most honest, stubborn, giving and hardest working woman I have ever met.  I try to live in a way that I hope will make you proud, mom.  You have taught me how to love, and there simply are no words or drawings which can express my profound gratitude.

Hello...

5/4/11

Unfortunately, I will be unable to update until Sunday, the 8th.

I have many exciting projects going on- I must put a lot of time into them until Saturday, so I am going to focus my energies on them instead of the sketch of the day.

I will be working on drawings for the "from me to you" section, so if you would like to see your drawing up Monday, please send one in!

This man walks past the studio every day

He

He walks on a certain side of the road, without stopping, around 5 pm, every day.  He always has his headphones on and he directs his attention in front of him.  This time, however, he was walking on the opposite side of the road and he paused for several moments to look at something at his feet.

Today I paused to look at something in front of my own feet as well, I have been examining the things which are important to me.  I think it's a good week to do so...

Do you have a nose? Do you breathe? This is you right now.

I know that your nose probably doesn't look like this...  Very few people have this nose.  If it makes you uncomfortable that I took the liberty of saying that this is you, please forgive me, and insert a mental image of your own nose in place of the one I drew.  Thank you.
